Preparing the roadtrip! PART 1

PREPARING THE ROADTRIP - PART 1

SOME THOUGHTS BEFORE WE LEAVE

The idea

It must have been more than a year ago when we decided we had to go on another road trip.
In 2016, a year after Sanne conquered cancer, we toured Iceland for a couple of weeks.
We liked it so much, we knew this wouldn’t be the last time.

Small “hiccup” in the plan: the birth of our first born son, Leon. He saw the light just a year ago, on may 23th 2017.
We knew we wanted to pull trough with the plan, but where should we go then, and when would be a convenient time?

We could take the plane, but with a one-year-old, that’s a bit too much of a hassle. And with a 100% chance of a crying baby the whole time, we decided it would be a “start-to-finish” road trip!

Where to go?

Next question we had to answer: where???
Since we both love Scandinavia en we have both been there numerous times (8x Sweden, 2x Norway, 4x Iceland, 1x Svalbard, 1x Finland,… and that’s just me) that wasn’t too much of a question. But should we take Sweden or Norway or …?

Since I went to Norway, half a year ago with some friends (read more here), we decided that country is perfect for some roadtripping. Hopefully that doesn’t change when you visit it with a youngling 🙂 .

First plan was to make it to the North Cape, but after some “research” the eventual return-point would be a little bit more to the south.
Plan is to make it to Senja. An island just above the all famous Lofoten. It should be less crowded, but the views are said to be just as breathtaking and therefore just our cup of tea!

When would be best?

I personally love to travel in autumn. The weather is ok, not too warm, but (most of the time) not too rainy either. A half year ago we had +20°C in Bodo, a city not far from the Lofoten, above the Arctic Circle. Off course I had a sunburn! With my Scandinavian looks – tall, ginger,… – I’m not too likely to travel in summer and certainly not to hot destinations.

Sanne on the other hand loves Scandinavian nature, but also likes warm weather…
If we want some sunny weather on our roadtrip we should go to Scandinavia in summer. Et voila, June it is!

Next question we have to ask ourselves: How will we get there, what will/can we take with us, how is it going to be with a toddler,…?
But that’s something for another post ;).
